Hey creative, have you tried doing a pour? It’s so fun and gorgeous all by itself – but of course, I had to add a mermaid to it! “Let’s Make A Mermaid” is one of the four classes I am teaching this summer!
What’s a pour?
If you are wondering what a pour is, it’s basically taking several colors of paint into a cup and flipping it over onto a surface. There are specialty paints for this or you can use an additive to thin out the paint to make it flow more quickly. It creates interesting patterns and colors! There is a little finesse to it but it’s so worth it! We are doing this as our base for our project in this class!
Every summer I make the time to teach because I love teaching in person. There is something so fun about having someone’s eyes light up when they “get it” or nail something they never thought they could do. Another favorite is at the end when they say “that was so fun!” And they walk out loving to make art as much as I do!
Because I have kids and kids with special needs I can’t always get away which means I have to limit my traveling time so I only do teaching in person to the public two times a year when I can reach a lot of students in one weekend. In June I will be in Arlington, TX, and Aug I will be in the Woodlands, Houston TX teaching at GASC and CKC. I hope you will join me!
A few FAQ about summer classes:
Q. Will you have your Rita Barakat products with you?
A. Yes, however supplies will be limited so if there is something you really want message me and you can save shipping costs by purchasing it ahead of time. I will have it set aside with your name on it at the show.
Q. What supplies do I need for your classes?
A. You can bring an apron and baby wipes- I provide everything else!
Q. What will I learn in these classes?
A. There are tons of techniques (in addition to a pour) being taught in each class, plus tips on how to use many different products and on different types of projects. I make it relevant to what you are already doing!
Q. What if I’ve never done mixed media?
A. You can do this! I break everything down so my classes reach beginners and experienced alike. My heart is for you to not only complete a project but actually learn how to replicate what you’ve learned in whatever types of projects you are doing.
The project above is from our design team member Martha!
