Can’t Draw a Face?

February 9, 2019

RitaBarakat.com

Hey Creatives! We have been talking about making faces art all week here at RitaBarakat.com and here is another way to get a face on your art projects with out having to draw a face!

You can’t daw a face?

If you missed the other posts in the making faces series you can read themĀ here and here. Today let’s talk about collage and die cuts. No one says you have to draw a face to get one on your projects. You can cut out pictures out of magazines, ephemera or die cuts. These faces are already done and can easily be adjusted to fit into your mixed media projects. This is one of my fairies from the “Veil of the Faires” ephemera, yes, I cut her little face out.

If you can’t draw a face (or you want a shortcut), cut & glue down your face. You can cut out whichever body parts give you a hard time, the whole body if you want. I drew several positions before I decided which to go with. What is fun about this collage technique is that you can use a different head for a body, there making whatever position you want, creating all types of scenes.

The face is on heavy paper so when it’s glued down doesn’t sit flush, but slightly raised from the rest of the surface. If this happens to you, use a little gesso to raise the sides of the surface to match the face. This also works if you are changing the hair color or clothes. Then paint as usual.

I hope you have enjoyed this week making faces posts and videos. All of the stencils, dies, and stamps are available in the shop now! Please leave me a comment on any ideas that you would love to learn about next! See you Monday!
