Quotes have always had a special place in my heart! I remember having a little notebook in which I would copy down sayings I liked or heard people say when I was younger. Pursuing my art as I got older became important to me. I wanted to combine my love of words with color – so I started an art journal. The Rita Barakat monthly die cuts always have a way of finding their home in it and this little angel is no exception. I had so much fun with this set. I created a mixed media canvas and card with it and now this art journal page.
Recently I have been struggling with my sense of purpose and spirituality. My oldest just turned 18 and the era of being a stay at home mom is coming to an end. I don’t know what to do with myself now that my kids are grown and spreading their wings. I want to do something of purpose, value and help others, but I am older now and really don’t want to go back to school (I just paid off my M Ed!) or start over in the workforce.
Kneel Before God
My life has been consumed with my children and what goes on in my own for walls that sometimes I don’t feel like I belong in a serious grown-up conversation. I will stare at the floor or briefly make eye contact and smile as to not be rude. This has really been bothering me lately and resting heavy on my heart. In my quiet time I prayed about it and not even an hour later I saw a poster that said: “she who kneels before God can stand before men.” It was just what I needed at that moment and I knew I would need it again in the future. This little angel was just the accent my quote needed.
I used the heart wing Art Foamie stamp and colored it in with some Glitterific Plaid paint in pink. I had a simple scroll stencil that I used around the angel to feature her. The page came together quickly! I hand wrote the quote, attached it with some gel medium and outlined the strips.
Creating art is so much more than just making pretty things. Often times it is a journey to self-discovery!
