Hey Creatives! Have you tried embossing powder? Today we have some embossing powder tips for you! In addition to our embossing powder tips Susan shares how she made this fun Christmas tree tag!
Embossing Powder Tips!
Use embossing ink, pigment ink or Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L to attach embossing powder to the project.
Use a heat tool to melt the powder, keep it moving so you don’t scorch the paper or make bubbles appear on the melted powder.
Give it a couple of minutes to dry before touching, it can burn you (been there done that!.
You do not have to add more ink if you want to do another layer, just add more powder while it’s still hot for thicker coverage.
Don’t feel limited to the colors in the jar, just like paint mix colors for new and exciting combinations!
If what you are trying to emboss is fairly small use tweezers to hold it, or prop it up with a paper cup.
If you have embossing powder in the wrong area brush it away with a clean small paintbrush.
Use a bigger soft clean paintbrush to brush away any stray powder from your project (after it is completely dry).
If you don’t have a tray to catch the extra powder a piece of paper folded in half to pour the powder back into the jar, use a soft paintbrush to brush any leftover powder back into the jar.
Use an embossing ink marker for handwriting and doodles!
What Susan had to say about her project!
Are you like me and enjoy using a variety of colors for Christmas projects? I am all about blues and pinks for the Holidays. Of course, I need to have as much sparkle as possible!!! The tree is full of it with different shades of blue. To achieve this look I combined Rita Barakat ‘s Midnight Magic and Mermaid Fin Magical Mysteries embossing powders. To heat set these powders sprinkle them, carefully lift the tag and heat from the bottom. The Rita Barakat Emerald Creek Embossing powders I used are thick and chunky which means they fly around a lot more. To avoid them flying off it is best to heat it from the bottom. This tag is going to look great on my December Daily album.
You can find me on YouTube at Tickled Pink Creating where I have a playlist of all my Rita Barakat Design Team projects.
Have you tried my Magical Mysteries embossing powders with Emerald Creek? I would love to see your projects! Make sure to tag me @Ritabarakatart on Instagram or @Ritabarakat1 on FB or Twitter! You can always post in our new FB group “Rise and Shine with Rita Barakat”
Reminder there will be no Mixed Media Monday tonight but I WILL do an episode and a party on New Year’s Eve! Make sure to join our group “Rise and Shine with Rita Barakat!” on FB before 8 pm New Years so you be late for the party! Festivities start at 8 pm CST!
Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the tips. Another that I would add is make sure that you use a very good, sticky embossing ink or whatever to really make the embossing powder stick. I messed up 2 projects the other day because the Distress Embossing Ink stuff didn’t work well. UGH
