The most wonderful time of the year
This time of the year most people are joyful, full of excitement especially with Christmas right around the corner. But some people are hurting, maybe they recently lost a loved one, are dealing with a very sick family member, are struggling to make ends meet, have a child in the hospital, or in jail …whatever the reason it is ok.
There is a song by We Are Messengers called “Maybe it’s OK” It stops me in my tracks every time I hear it. Probably because we’ve been through so much this year that I totally identify. This is the chorus…
Maybe it’s ok if I’m not ok
‘Cause the One who holds the world is holding onto me
Maybe it’s all right if I’m not all right
‘Cause the One who holds the stars is holding my whole life
When you have kids, if you have a business, if you need to go to work, if others are relying on you-you still have to function no matter how hard it is. While you are trying to pretend it’s OK (ahem… like me) maybe it’s OK that it’s not OK. I mean, sometimes situations are serious and if you believe in the Almighty Creator isn’t it feasible that he knows that He knows and understands what you are going through? Or that He cares and has compassion for where you have been? And it hurts Him when you are hurting? That an omnipresent Father can rejoice with those who are celebrating and by sorrowful for those who are in pain? That the if He created the universe isn’t he big enough to handle our hurting hearts?
He is, He does, He has you.
It is OK to admit we are not OK, you don’t have to wallow in it but you don’t have to pretend you are OK either. The Bible tells us there is is a time for everything (ECC 3:1-8) so it is feasible that it is ok to not be OK. SO take a little time for yourself, for me, it looks like creative time, for you, it might be curling up with a good book,
Take care of yourself.
And while you are at it maybe do a little something for someone else. There are so many people hurting in the world. Sometimes it just takes a warm smile, a simple note or a kind word to make someone’s day.
