Hey Creatives! Embossing powders make great coral reefs! Look at this background that Susan made for one of my mermaid diecuts!
Doesn’t it look like coral reefs? I can imagine this being deep below the sea for our little mermaid! Of course she uses Rita Barakat and Emerald Creek Magical Mysteries embossing powders and today she has a video for it!
Look at that gorgeous texture and sparkle! Let’s see how she does it!

What Susan had to say about her project!
On this 6×8 mixed media journal page, I used Rita’s Mermaid die cut along with the Dragon’s Egg embossing powder. Dragon’s Egg is my go-to embossing powder because of the amazingly rich plum color that it is and also because of how textured it becomes as it melts. What a great addition to anyone’s mixed media collection!
I started with some collaging, used modeling paste with a stencil and some Brushed Pewter Distress Stain for some shine. For some added color I used Dylusions sprays. But the real highlight to the page was adding Rita Barakat and Emerald Creek Dragon’s Egg Embossing Powder which has a wonderful shimmer of its own. But wait! My favorite new technique is to brush some glossy accents to the top of the Mermaid die cut and it brings it to life!!! The colors pop and the face jumps off the page!!! It looks amazing!
