Hello Creatives! Look at this acrylic on canvas from Rebecca! She was able to turn one of my “So you say you can’t draw” stencils into this beautiful work of art! Of course, she used Plaid Folk art paint for this project! Learn about this and our big giveaway by reading more…

What Rebecca had to say about her acrylic on canvas

Understanding – 5” X 7” Acrylic on Canvas By Rebecca E. Parsons

I believe that my artful spirit is closely aligned with Rita Barakat. Her art speaks to my creative soul and her art tools, especially her faces, are delightsome. I used one of her face “So you say you can’t draw” stencils to create this beautiful painting with Plaid acrylics. It was fairly easy with her stencil.

I used the stencil to establish the facial features after painting a loose brushwork background of FolkArt reds, yellows, and blues. I didn’t have a direction in mind when I began painting her face, but my brush added the colors starting with her big blue eyes. Painting and contouring the facial features came next with a mixture of white, peach, and rose. Then I painted her hair using colors from the background over a deep, dark charcoal. She has an exotic look and feel. I love the tiny hearts that are included with the stencil. That makes this face special.

The word ‘understanding’ next to the hearts signifying a soulful understanding or connection between us.

I love to paint, draw, and design faces. On my first art blog (circa 2004), I created a face every day for one year – 365 faces and stories about them. They all had names and expressions that flowed from my pencils. My idea was to regain drawing skills that had long sat dormant as I pursued my graphic design and muraling careers. I gained so much more during that period. But that is a story for another day. 🙂

I think I put my comment in the wrong place… I put it in the text box for the giveaway…. I probably should have copied it here huh….
Well just in case you can’t see what I wrote…
Rebecca I wanted to tell you that your canvas is beautiful and that the background is my favorite part. It reminds me of a photograph if she were standing with flowers behind her and just as the picture was taken the wind picked up and swirled the flowers behind her. Swirls of color and of fragrance… does that make sense??

My favorite subject matter of all times are faces. I recently discovered Rita’s Etsy Shop and saw the face stencils and became intrigued. Is it possible that a non-drawer could in fact draw a beautiful face I asked myself. I wondered if Rita might do a demo using one of these stencils and here is this beautiful rendition using one of her stencils. Love her expression and the tiny heart next to those sweet eyes. I am inspired. Thank you.
