What really matters
Hey there creative friends! I was thinking about the holidays, productions, shopping, preparations and what really matters. Whew, I am exhausted just thinking about it! Are you ready? It is a hard time of year for so many even without all the hustle.
This has been a weird year for me. My father passed away in the spring. I loved my dad but he wasn’t in my life (his life choices not mine) so while the loss is there, it left me in this weird state of melancholy. It feels like I lost my mom this year too. My mom is physically still here, but her Alzheimer’s has taken a turn for the worst. She does not know us anymore. When we visit we hope for a few moments of recognition- sometimes we get it, most of the time we don’t. This is the first year we will not have my mom over for Christmas. I am sure some of you can relate… Joy in the season but sadness too for those we have lost and some of you for broken relationships. But there is joy…and lots of it.
Love is in the air
This year our calendar has been filled with weddings, my daughter just a few months ago and so many others. I made this canvas for a very sweet couple who were married just this weekend! It was such a joyous time and we are sooo happy for them. Love is in the air people! Life is short and you have to enjoy and celebrate people while they are in your life! This year we have tried to attend more celebrations than in the past – it is not something that comes easy for us as we have special needs in our family so anything out of the normal schedule can be VERY difficult. What matters most is that people are important and I do believe we have to teach that to our children – even our special needs children.
Doing what you love
One of the joys in life is doing what you love. Not everybody can do what they for love as their occupation but you might be able to incorporate it into your workplace or into your downtime. Being artsy makes me happy, so instead of running all over the place for the perfect gift I try to create some of the gifts for others myself. Do you do that? Now I can get my “downtime” and someone else can reap the benefits!
For me to be the best version of myself I need “downtime”/creative time. If what matters most is people then taking care of yourself has to be a priority too in this busy time of year! Tonight on Mixed Media Monday on FB I will be sharing some other ideas you can create as gifts for others! Join me tonight at 8 CST if you can! If you can’t, you can watch the replay – here is the one from last week.
