Hello Everyone, Shilpa here. We, the Rita Barakat Design Team, are collaborating with Ann Butler’s team and Lisa Marie’s Colorique team this month to showcase their all lovely products…. isn’t that fun? 🙂 I am sharing a mixed media art journal page using Rita’s Magical Theatre book, with a step by step tutorial today! Make sure you read through to the end …there is a giveaway!
Here is the tutorial. I hope you all enjoy!
I used a piece of white mixed media paper for this page. I started with adhering old book pages to the surface with Decoupage Glue. I wanted to create a multi-layer background. Then I applied white gesso as a primer to the whole surface which gave a good tooth for my colors and texture.
As I mentioned earlier, I used Rita’s Magical Theater book The book is full of printables and awesome things like theater scenes, dolls, doll dresses, coloring pages and more! I printed the pages using a laser printer. Then I cut out the desired dresses and doll body parts.
Detailed instructions to attach hands and legs to the mixed media doll and all are in the book. I also dressed her up by gluing a lovely blue dress, wings, and mask!!
To make the background pop, I applied dark ink to all the edges of cut out images. It covers the white area as well.
I applied Blue berry pigment ink (Colorbox) designed by Ann Butler with a blending tool at all edges of this doll.
After I worked on the doll, I went back to work on my journal page background after the gesso dried completely. To create texture on the surface, I applied texture paste through a stencil.
I used these wonderful Lisa Marie designed, ColoriQue colors– Ice Pink and Ruby Slippers on the paper. To get this beautiful background, I spritzed water on the whole surface, dropped colors randomly onto it and spread with my finger as I desired. I dried the surface using a heat tool.
To highlight the texture I applied Colorbox Gold ink using a sponge.
For my next layer, I stamped dots texture using Ann Butler Blueberry Ink. To dry Pigment ink use a heat tool.
I then adhered the mixed media doll image and stars on the created background.
I stamped the words “Moment” using Blueberry ink and my page was finished.
It was fun to work with these all great products. I hope you would like to try them in your mixed media projects.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Stay tuned for more wonderful inspirations by the Design Team.
The products I used are as follows:
