Emotions Journal Layout

Hello, Everyone! Jenn here! Today I want to share my Emotions art journal layout with you.

Have you ever wanted to draw faces in your journal or other mixed media? If you have but you think your drawing skills won’t allow it you need to try these stencils! Rita Barakat designed them for this exact purpose.

These stencils are sold in a set In Rita’s Etsy Store here.

For this layout, I used the Sweet Sisters Flower stencil.

I also used The following stamps by Rita Barakat

Fairy Garden Background Stamp
Art Foamies Heart Wing

To create journal layouts like this one, start by creating a background. Use a combination of inks, sprays, and acrylics with stamps and stencils. Random ink sprays and splatters, combined with stamps brought this background to life. Once you have a background use the face stencils wherever you want them on your page. Add color to eyes and lips using pens or colored pencils as I did. You can also incorporate embossing powders as I did with mine. I used the Art Foamies Heart Wing stamp and white chalk ink. Stamp on the page and sprinkle with an iridescent pink embossing powder. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat tool.

Here are some more views of my process. Thank you so much for viewing my post! I hope that you are inspired to grab some of these stamps and stencils and get inky and creative with your journal!

In this photo, you can see where I started with thinner black lines and then started writing the script around the hair lines.

Adding white dots with a gel pen to the hair strands added more interest. Also, add some stamping with the Fairy Garden Background Stamp. This does not have to be perfect! Art is whatever your imagination creates! Add touches of color using bright gel pens or colored pencils. I used a distress marker in a fleshy pink tone and traced around all of the face lines to add dimension.

Thanks Again For viewing My post Today! Until next time, Jenn

Texture and Color

Feb 2014 001100

Hey hey sweet friends! Just a quick post today. Of course I wanted to give you something cool to look at. OK maybe it’s just me – I like looking at textures and colors, it makes me happy. Art is uncomplicated, you just do it – no thinking involved and something magical happens, that’s why I love it. Life – not so much. Life, people, business, decisions – it’s all complicated. Years ago when the kiddos were small I thought it was hard; I thought when they get older it will get easier… The circumstances change but I don’t think it’s easier, just different.

Color and texture, good stuff, easy. Today I spent the day curtailing my kids, taking notes and doing research for a speaking engagement I have coming up. No art today, but still good stuff- I am torn in many directions not only for time, but my attention and they are all good things; how do you choose?

I will using these backgrounds for some book marks, sorry no secrets being revealed today…I have to keep somethings under my hat! LOL

I am thinking of putting some in my Etsy shop. What do think? I need to get some more items in there. I hope to have an uncomplicated day today and I hope you have one too. I hope you enjoyed looking at texture and color as much as I do. Tomorrow I am posting a tutorial  on how I did repainted my drawers (did you see my “where bloggers create” post below?) you won’t want to miss it!

Have you signed up for my newsletter? You know I give away a free mixed media class every month! You can sign up on the top right of your screen.

Mixed media on a box

Hello my artsy friends. So what is going on?
I guess since it’s summer
you are busy doing what you do.
Today I have this little project on the Frog Dog Studio blog!
If you haven’t checked out this new mixed media kit club yet you should!
If you are new to mixed media its a good place to start because you get
lots of different products in one kit and if you dont know what to do with the products
the blog will give you lots of ideas!

If you are experienced with mixed media this is a good way to try new products
and or challenge yourself to use everything in the kit like I did here…
For details on this project please go to Frog Dog Studio and
if  you do get a subscription please tell them I sent you!
(This is all from July’s kit)
Meanwhile I hope that you had a chance to visit my new facebook page-
if not please go “like” it- as a designer I have to keep up with the trends
and so I made my new page here
I will be putting new content and tips there
Maybe you have ideas what I should put there?
I would love your input!
I hope you have a wonderful day!

While away at CHA…

Blog hop! While I am away at CHA there is no reason you can’t see some
cool new stuff right? So Clear Scraps has introduced stencil!
Just one of MANY new releases at Clear Scraps!
Called Mascils (stencils/masks) lots of different styles- two of which you
(Also from Clear Scraps!)
I used gel medium on top of the stencils, lifted the stencils and allowed them to dry.
(You can mix gel medium with paint but at the time I didn’t know which color
I was going to use so I added color after it was dry.)
Then I added blue and green Gelatos with a wet paint brush
and of top of that some gold perfect pearls powder.
(The ribbons were dyed with Gelatos & water as well.)
Next hop to Wendy’s blog!
Or  click on the picture and it will take you to the Clear Scraps blog
where all the links are listed!
And BONUS for a chance to win some Clear Scraps from me
make sure you are a follower before you leave me a comment and I will pick
a winner from my followers and announce a winner on Wed!

Capturing Canvas

Hey friends!
Today I am so excited to show you a class project I taught at The Crafty Scrapper a while back!
I love this mini – do you know how hard it is to make something and not share it on your blog?
I used all Faber Castell Design Memory Craft products and you will have to go to their blog if you want to know how I did it, but I will show you the pics! I will tell you that those Gelatos (hint!) are so versitile they really make crafting fun!

So how are you doing in your thankfulness challenge?
It’s not to late to start! And I am giving away a $30.00 gift card!
Hmm do I need to add some scrap goodies in there to get you all motivated?
I will have to think about it.
Meanwhile on the homefront Spencer
is adjusting nicely to the family. He is very easy going and is doing
great with the kids! We have alot to be thankful for, we have had alot of changes
this year and somehow everything seems to be falling into place.
