Emotions Journal Layout

Hello, Everyone! Jenn here! Today I want to share my Emotions art journal layout with you.

Have you ever wanted to draw faces in your journal or other mixed media? If you have but you think your drawing skills won’t allow it you need to try these stencils! Rita Barakat designed them for this exact purpose.

These stencils are sold in a set In Rita’s Etsy Store here.

For this layout, I used the Sweet Sisters Flower stencil.

I also used The following stamps by Rita Barakat

Fairy Garden Background Stamp
Art Foamies Heart Wing

To create journal layouts like this one, start by creating a background. Use a combination of inks, sprays, and acrylics with stamps and stencils. Random ink sprays and splatters, combined with stamps brought this background to life. Once you have a background use the face stencils wherever you want them on your page. Add color to eyes and lips using pens or colored pencils as I did. You can also incorporate embossing powders as I did with mine. I used the Art Foamies Heart Wing stamp and white chalk ink. Stamp on the page and sprinkle with an iridescent pink embossing powder. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat tool.

Here are some more views of my process. Thank you so much for viewing my post! I hope that you are inspired to grab some of these stamps and stencils and get inky and creative with your journal!

In this photo, you can see where I started with thinner black lines and then started writing the script around the hair lines.

Adding white dots with a gel pen to the hair strands added more interest. Also, add some stamping with the Fairy Garden Background Stamp. This does not have to be perfect! Art is whatever your imagination creates! Add touches of color using bright gel pens or colored pencils. I used a distress marker in a fleshy pink tone and traced around all of the face lines to add dimension.

Thanks Again For viewing My post Today! Until next time, Jenn

This is part of our back yard, it’s been fun to see the kids all playing. Goodbye Summer. Monday the kids start school YAY! It has been a crazy busy summer and I am ready for school to start again! I never thought I would but I like having a schedule! Especially for my kids, they thrive on it. All of the school supplies have been bought, groceries for lunches, backpacks, new clothes and shoes.

The kids have grown a lot this summer – we had to buy shoes and clothes in much bigger sizes! I love this time a year, another chance for a new start- re-evaluating and getting organized!

I am ready, even bought some supplies of my own so I can “back to school”myself!!! I can’t wait! And how about you? What are you up to these days?

Week one, Summer roundup!

Have you ever wondered how to get more mileage out of your drawings? Check out my post “3 ATC’s 3 ways!”on the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft  blog!

It was a crazy busy week – kids were out of school and hubby was on vacation. We didn’t go anywhere too fancy but it was a fun filled week, I think I need to recuperate now! Here are some highlights! Week one, summer round up!

2014-06-11 June 2014

That’s not even including all the shopping, BBQ, music, art, Baby Kayla turning  3 months and rolling over!  Today laundry for me and back to work for hubby!

The past few days we’ve been in prayer – God has a way of putting things in perspective and  reminding you just how big He is! One of our oldest and dearest friends were in Hawaii for their 24th anniversary, the night before they were supposed to come home he had an attack – they thought it was a heart attack. Within 24 hours they were performing surgery to put a defibrillator in! You can imagine the constant prayers, away from home and friends and family! But God is good and every thing went well! He is his old smiling self again!  God covered in so many ways- they were out on a hike earlier that day that was 90 minutes away from any medical care! This happened when they were back at the condo.  The doctors were able to move quickly, do what was necessary and everything went smoothly! We are so thankful God saved him,  he and his wife are such a blessing to us and our kids! Please be praying for them- they still have to get home and of course things will be drastically different as  they adjust to his new lifestyle.

I am also doing “100happydays, where you take a picture everyday of something that makes you happy! I am only on day 7 but I think it will be a fun little mini too when it’s finished. How is your summer going?

Prayer request

Well it’s the end of the month and tomorrow another kit comes out at Scrapbooking from the inside out. The new theme is “yearning”. I will post my new layouts for that kit tomorrow but before I wanted to mention the last challenge Rachel had posted on the theme for August “Safety” Here is what she wrote:

Bulgarian Proverb

Have you been in an unsafe or unsure situation, physically or emotionally, and come through it safely? What did you learn from the journey? Did the bumps in the road add to your understanding of yourself? In what ways? Would you go back and change the bumpy road to a smooth one?For the design twist, please use a bumpy road or obstacle image.

I did not get a chance to do this challenge but I found it intriguing. Sometimes the very thing that makes you grow are the bumps in the road of life. Some of those seem a lot bigger than bumps and can downright make you miserable. When you are going through it is hard to see that the struggles you are facing are necessary and will help you grow. I am still going to do this challenge, it’s on my “to do” list.
I am at a crossroads (or a bumpy road) right now and I’m not liking my options. For years now I have had pain in my wrists ( called De Quervains) it used to come and go. Lately it comes around a lot. Some days are tolerable on other days I use my wrist/thumb supports. First of all do you have any idea how hard it is to cut with your thumb immobilized?
Well six months ago they gave me cortisone shots to see if the pain would go away, it didn’t. As a matter of fact it got worse. I am a wimp and I did not want to back because it hurt so bad and he wanted to do surgery. Now I have pain going up my arm and my doc said you have to go see the surgeon! I have an appointment next Wednesday. I know I have to do something, my whole arm hurts now in addition to both my wrists. What is scary is that besides the 4- 6weeks recovery period there is no guarantee that it will work. I was doing research online and some people have said their pain did not go away ! The thought of having surgery is bad enough but the thought of going through all of this and it’s not any better. :0
On the other hand what if it does work?
So I need your prayers. Prayer for healing, prayer that doc does a good job if I let him do it. Prayer for discernment to know what to do now. I can’t imagine not scrapping for 5 days much less four to six weeks because of recovery time!
If you have gone through or know someone who has gone through this surgery I would lve to hear your thoughts on the subject. I know I am crazy about scrapbooking and it seems silly but I am also a mother of five and ababy girl is only four so constant pain is not good for my temperment.
Ok enough seriousness for one post did I mention…

I made this for a challenge at Treasured Scrapbooking. (Background paper is Bisous, I created the calendar myself, used my cricut for letter, vines, dragonfly and flowers. Pearls are for Kaisercraft. I drew, wrote on and painted freehand just for fun. The word “beach” is Thickers I sprayed with Adirondacks Color Wash. I dont remember who makes the rub ons, the glitter is from Stickles.)

Don’t forget to add me to your prayer list!

Don’t you love winning stuff? Well at over GCD Studios I won these cool Epoxy stickers and chipboard pieces called Caribbean Blues. I never expect to win and then you read it, and you have to read it again because you can’t believe it’s YOUR NAME! LOL! Well that’s always fun! I received them last week and this is what I made with them! I love when something just comes together and I’ve had these pictures from last summer so…

I got this Fancy Pants Transparent Clear cuts tabbed book at the scrapbook convention I went to a few weeks ago. The whole kit was $5.00! Gotta love those conventions! I also used We Are Memory Keepers foil, glitter, flock adhesive kit. Love that stuff – also was an amazing deal at the convention! I love the colors and the quality of the GCD Studios products! The paper is also from GCD Studios – it has this sheen finish on it that’s really hard to photograph but is really pretty. These are all pictures of the little ones having some summer fun in the backyard! And if you have this slide FYI don’t do this if you ever want this back in your house again! The kids had a blast and it seemed like a good idea at the time but we couldn’t get all the water out of the pieces of plastic!

Boys will be boys!

Kids and a hose- self explanatory fun!

I love that little frame that came in the kit – I had to add it in here just for fun! Used some making memories rub ons too. Baby girl is such a cutie! There it is, summer and kids make for great little albums! Fun for all! And thanks again Heidi for my goodies!
