Good Morning Creatives!
Creating my Background.
For my background, I used my Gel Press plate to mono-print my background. Monoprinting is a super easy and fun way to create background with loads of color and texture. Having a textured background helps you stencil POP!
I starting by gathering my art journal (this one is a Dylusions Journal by Dyan Reavely), fluorescent acrylic paint and my largest gel plate.
Using a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop, I used a brayer to roll my fluorescent green paint through my stencil on to my gel plate.
When you remove the stencil you will have these great leaf patterns. Allow it to dry slightly before braying over a light coat of a bright color. I chose fluorescent pink! Once my color was down, I pressed bubble wrap on to a few places to add visual texture.
Flipping my journal over onto my gel plate was the easiest way to transfer my image.
Look at all the YUMMY texture!! Since i knew I would be using a stencil later, I made sure to keep all my paints and textures flat. This will give me a better stencil image when I get ready to transfer it.
To add my next layer, I started with some fluid acrylic smoothed all over my plate using a brayer. I chose a purple so that it would be a high contrast to my bright background.
Using my same stencil, I placed it on top of my paint and then pressed my journal in different places all over my background.
Here is my completed background:
Next it was time to add my image. I find that using a .7 size mechanical pencil works the best when transferring stencils.
Then…I went to town! Wanting her to be different and unusual, I gave her turquoise eyes and lime green hair with purple highlights.
I intentionally didn’t add the stars that are part of the stencil. By omitting things like that you can completely personalize your project and get more “bang for your buck” when it comes to stencils.
What does it mean?
I chose the phrase “Find your peace and hold on tight” because it can be so easy to let others steal our joy.
That one girl at work makes a snarky comment about your outfit and ruins your day.
Your already running late and jerk goes 10 miles under the speed limit…making you even later.
Your husband doesn’t help with the laundry or dishes and you feel overwhelmed and under appreciated.
All of these things can ruin our day…if we let it.
I’m not saying it’s easy…I know life isn’t always rainbows and unicorns, but while we might not have control over the external circumstances, we DO have control over how we react to it. We can choose whether or not we let it take root in our minds, our hearts and our spirits.
I hope today….in the midst of the negativity of life…you will make the choice to hold tight to your peace and NEVER let someone else take it.
You are the master of your ship…don’t let someone else direct your sails.
Until next time,
