Emotions Journal Layout

EmotionsArtJournalJennDuBellwww.ritabarakat.com

Hello, Everyone! Jenn here! Today I want to share my Emotions art journal layout with you.

Have you ever wanted to draw faces in your journal or other mixed media? If you have but you think your drawing skills won’t allow it you need to try these stencils! Rita Barakat designed them for this exact purpose.

These stencils are sold in a set In Rita’s Etsy Store here.

For this layout, I used the Sweet Sisters Flower stencil.

I also used The following stamps by Rita Barakat

Fairy Garden Background Stamp
Art Foamies Heart Wing

To create journal layouts like this one, start by creating a background. Use a combination of inks, sprays, and acrylics with stamps and stencils. Random ink sprays and splatters, combined with stamps brought this background to life. Once you have a background use the face stencils wherever you want them on your page. Add color to eyes and lips using pens or colored pencils as I did. You can also incorporate embossing powders as I did with mine. I used the Art Foamies Heart Wing stamp and white chalk ink. Stamp on the page and sprinkle with an iridescent pink embossing powder. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat tool.

Here are some more views of my process. Thank you so much for viewing my post! I hope that you are inspired to grab some of these stamps and stencils and get inky and creative with your journal!

In this photo, you can see where I started with thinner black lines and then started writing the script around the hair lines.

Adding white dots with a gel pen to the hair strands added more interest. Also, add some stamping with the Fairy Garden Background Stamp. This does not have to be perfect! Art is whatever your imagination creates! Add touches of color using bright gel pens or colored pencils. I used a distress marker in a fleshy pink tone and traced around all of the face lines to add dimension.

Thanks Again For viewing My post Today! Until next time, Jenn

Touch of Magic Tag

Hello creative friends! Ramona here, and I am so excited to share my latest mixed media altered tag project with you. This is a beautiful craft that will look great with any little gift or treat you may be sharing with someone. Using the Fairy Magic stamp set from the Brutus Monroe collection you can take any tag and transform into a whimsical and magical scene. Rita Barakat has created the sweetest stamps that help you make any tag or card stand out.

Start by creating the background you desire on your tag.  I used a combination of ink spray and distress markers, blending them together with a water loaded brush.  I like the finished look a distressed edge gives any piece, so I decided to distress the edge of the tag by gently scraping the sides of it on my ink pad.  I used my water on a brush once again to blur some of this color in.

By having the images stamped on card stock they were ready to color and cut out while my tag dried.  It is important to let the layers dry before you start to adhere them together.  This also helps you see what the true colors of your project are and make any adjustments you need.

Next, I do a ‘stash grab’, where I quickly browse through my supplies and grab several bits and baubles that may work on my tag.  I love new products and craft supplies, but I am a real promoter for using what you have and taking advantage of the little supplies you may normally overlook.  Because my tag and images were already colored, this helped me stick to a specific color palette as I was grabbing. I do this quickly and don’t over think it!

Deciding on which embellishments to use usually easy for me once I start to play with them all together.  I quickly settled on the purple daisies (although the yellow center was not my favorite, so I ended up covering them completely with glitter!) and some wispy yarn and ribbon. I also stamped the dragonfly on the back ground and added a few more dots just to give another layer of texture and interest before gluing on the final images.

Here is another look at the finished tag after assembling all the elements together. I kept imagining how fun this would be on a cellophane wrapped treat for a friends birthday, or on a cute little gift basket for a new favorite teacher.

\

The details of the stamp set are just beautiful, and they imprint so well on card stock.  Take your time coloring in your fairy, and you can’t go wrong with her sweet and beautiful face. I can’t wait to see what you make with your Fairy Magic stamps- be sure to post a link in the comments or tag us on your post!

I hope this inspires you to add a little magic and beauty to your next gift <3 Please leave a comment and tell me how you will be using your tags, or post a link to share your project with us.

Heart Wing Creations

Hello creative souls, Ramona here, and I am so excited to share a few ideas for your art journaling, snail mail, and gift-giving projects. If you are new to the world of Art Foamies you are in for a treat.  They are versatile stamps that give you lots of options as you create your paper craft and mixed media projects.  I am a believer in using what you buy and really getting your money’s worth out of the little investments you make for your craft stash. With that in mind, I wanted to show you 3 easy ways to utilize the Heart Wing stamp in Rita Barakat’s beautiful Art Foamie line. Once you play with your own foam stamp you will find endless ways to use them.

started by using different mediums with the Art Foamie Heart Wing stamp.  The brown ink is a heavy duty archival ink, and I wanted it to look layered and textured, so I stamped it on an old recycled dictionary page.  The pink is a very inexpensive ink that I already had in my stash, and I stamped it down on a piece of cardstock.  When using ink pads you may need to adjust your Art Foamie across the ink pad to get a proper inking of the entire surface before you stamp it. The foam stamp is firm enough that you do not need an acrylic block to use it, making it easy to grab and move around on any surface you choose.
Finally, the lovely grey is acrylic paint, which I thinly spread out on a piece of drip paper and gently stamped my foam stamp in. It distributes the paint in such a gorgeous way and has a lovely textured feel to it.  After using the foamie I stamped it on a wet paper towel a few times to clean any remaining paint and ink off the image.
Here are the ways I decided to use my three little-winged hearts ;
Project One: Gift Tag
With a stabilo pencil (you can use any type of distressing tool for this) I quickly outlined the image and the heart. This loose outline adds a bit of definition and gives the wings a loose feel.  I added a small greeting to the heart- you could stamp your own or add lettering here for a personal message, then I cut the wings out for a die-cut feel and slipped it on to the small wrapped gift.  How simple is that?
Project Two: Snail Mail Envelope
Nothing brightens the day of a fellow art loving soul more than some beautiful mail waiting for them in the mailbox.  This is a simple way to add whimsy and love to you envelopes – and it looks so cute!  For this project, get a nice heavy duty marker to color in the heart.  This will work well if you used a lighter color of acrylic paint, as you can see the red had no problem covering the grey paint.
On a small strip of paper stamp the sentiment you choose to share, and simply glue it in the heart, taking a moment to edge the words with a marker or pencil, adding definition and interest.  There would be so many fun ways to use this on an envelope or card, and I am not kidding when I say I can not wait to make loads of these for my stash!
Project Three: Art Journal Collage
I am an avid art journaler, as you may know from my last post, and exploring emotions through collage and mixed media is one of my favorite ways to spend my creative time.  This was such an easy way to add interest and focus to a collage, I can’t recommend it highly enough!
I had this painted background already on this page.  I often smear paint on several pages and walk away, leaving the backgrounds waiting for me later when I have time to sit and create. This background was ready for me this time around,  but you could use patterned paper or any other medium that you would like for the project.
I cut this image out of an old magazine (ask your friends to save you theirs and donate them to your studio!) and she sat so perfectly with those wings, I knew they were a match made in heaven.  I glued them both down on my dried background, and added some lettering to express my mood today.
I hope these little projects give you ideas for all the ways you could use the gorgeous Art Foamies from the Rita Barakat line as your work to push your creative skills.  I am so pleased with the way each one of these turned out, and I look forward to many more uses for these adorable wings.

If you are looking for art journaling techniques, you are in the right place!
Hi there! My name is Jenn DuBell and I am so excited to be a part of this new team! I have admired Rita Barakat’s artwork for a while now so I was excited when she announced her DT call and now I am truly honored that she has chosen me to be a part of it!
Today I am sharing my art journal layout called “Dreams in Circles”
looking for Art Journaling techniques? Dreams in circles
I had so much fun trying out Rita’s new stamps and stencils with several different art journaling techniques to see the endless possibilities! For this page I used Sweet Sisters Hearts face stencil. As a little tribute to Rita herself, I used watercolor pencils in hues of blue and purple to get the amazing hair color. I used pinks and peaches for her sweet little face and added some bright greens for her eyes.

Next, on to the fun background of my page! I used some teal stencil paint through a bubble stencil and some sprays of pink and purple. I added the same teal paint to Rita’s Art Foamies Zen Doodle stamp and then a high impact white gel pen for highlights. For the circles, I used several acrylic paints in coordinating colors onto white cardstock with a Gelli plate and circle stencil. I then stamped them with Rita’s Whimsical Fairy Garden Background stamp and Fairy Magic stamps.

Next, I punched out circles in three different sizes and adhered them onto my pages, highlighting the outer edges with a black watercolor pencil and a water brush. I wanted to add some pops of red here and there so I used Dylusions paint pens. I also added a few white highlights to the bubbles and some wording. I enjoyed all the bright colors and watching how Rita’s creations come to life!
Here are some closer views. I just love the sweet faces you can create with Rita’s stencils and bright colors!

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you get some inspiration from this layout.

CHA DIA display by Rita Barakat 2016

Hey there crafty peeps! Whew so I am finally back from CHA! I hope you were able to see my periscopes while I was there – not as many as I would like because of the sketchy wifi in the convention center but I got a few in and a couple of videos. So here is a clean video (the periscopes that did work were very grainy thanks to the wifi) of my Designer Display, if you were there I hope you were able to see it in action but if not you can look at it now. The display got a great response and I was soooo happy that it worked like I thought it would. (You never know with these things!) Thank you for all my sweet peeps that wished me well! XOXO I would also like to thank Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®, DecoArts, Deflecto, DCWV and Beacon- all these companies provided wonderful products that went into my display and I am so honored to work with them! (Now if I could get a canvas and/or watercolor paper company to work with! )

Here are some pictures of me building my display -not the best pictures but you get the idea.

I was so happy to see all my creative peeps and truly missed some that weren’t there. Next year it’s in AZ, should be interesting since I’ve only driven through there a couple of times.

If you were there I hope you got one of this years button, this is the third year I have done these buttons and I am super excited people actually came to find me to get one! On the left is this years apron – you know I cannot walk around wearing a plain apron! (Did you know that you can use PITT pens on fabric?) I spent a LOT of time working in the booth but I did get a little time to walk the floor – I will post those pictures this week so stay tuned!

I am so happy to share these pictures from the Texture Techniques class I taught at CHA…

Praising through the storms…

Hey there arsty peeps, today I am up on the Frog Dog Studio blog
I have some tips that you may or may not know about art journaling
artsy secrets! So please go check it out and leave me some love!
I will give you some pics here, a page from my art journal!

For these pages I used Faber Castell Gel medium to adhere
the sewing pattern paper (Frog Dog Studio Kit).

And Gelatos, Aquarelle pencils and PITT Artist Pens.

The journaling is from a a song, one of my favorites from Casting Crowns.
I love songs that capture what you are feeling, this is definitely one I always go back to.
I was working on this at the beginning of one of my migraines and this song came to mind.

Maybe it will bless you too.

Enjoy!
