Mixed Media layout

Emotions Journal Layout

Hello, Everyone! Jenn here! Today I want to share my Emotions art journal layout with you.

Have you ever wanted to draw faces in your journal or other mixed media? If you have but you think your drawing skills won’t allow it you need to try these stencils! Rita Barakat designed them for this exact purpose.

These stencils are sold in a set In Rita’s Etsy Store here.

For this layout, I used the Sweet Sisters Flower stencil.

I also used The following stamps by Rita Barakat

Fairy Garden Background Stamp
Art Foamies Heart Wing

To create journal layouts like this one, start by creating a background. Use a combination of inks, sprays, and acrylics with stamps and stencils. Random ink sprays and splatters, combined with stamps brought this background to life. Once you have a background use the face stencils wherever you want them on your page. Add color to eyes and lips using pens or colored pencils as I did. You can also incorporate embossing powders as I did with mine. I used the Art Foamies Heart Wing stamp and white chalk ink. Stamp on the page and sprinkle with an iridescent pink embossing powder. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat tool.

Here are some more views of my process. Thank you so much for viewing my post! I hope that you are inspired to grab some of these stamps and stencils and get inky and creative with your journal!

In this photo, you can see where I started with thinner black lines and then started writing the script around the hair lines.

Adding white dots with a gel pen to the hair strands added more interest. Also, add some stamping with the Fairy Garden Background Stamp. This does not have to be perfect! Art is whatever your imagination creates! Add touches of color using bright gel pens or colored pencils. I used a distress marker in a fleshy pink tone and traced around all of the face lines to add dimension.

Thanks Again For viewing My post Today! Until next time, Jenn

It has been a busy busy time here at the Barakats, I am looking forward to things slowing down a bit, kids going back to school  and regular schedules.  There was a little chaos keeping up with schedules but there also some very sweet moments that were blessings for sure and I wanted to share one I actually caught with my camera!

If you have followed my blog for some time (or know us IRL- in real life) you know that our kids have some special needs and things you take for granted are not always “normal” in the Barakat household. Things, like playing make believe with an action figure! We have never bought these types of toys for one of our boys because he would never play with them, show any interest, even when others tried to engage him. He has never been one to play with toys in general but he loves the super hero movies so I took a chance and bought these anyways and he actually played with it!!! I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal but it is if you have never seen your kid play make believe, let me tell you it is. (He may not be hitting all his childhood milestones on time or in order but slowly he is hitting them!) Hubby and I were staring at him play- in awe, I was in tears when I thought to grab the camera and I am so glad I did!
Truly a Christmas miracle!
Who says miracles don’t happen today?
Sometimes it’s all in how you look at things!

Blessings for the new year!

A two page out!

Hey sweet bloggers what is going on?
It’s been a while since I shares a layout so I figured why not a 2 pager!
Here’s a layout of my little ones (they grow up so fast!) – I had a lot of fun playing
with textures and paper (DCWV of course).

I added lots of Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft
gesso on top of pattern paper and drywall tape seems to be a staple
in my work these days. I don’t know why I just like those small circles!

Lots of layers, twine and charms.
The title is a chipboard piece I altered with Gellatos, PITT Artist Pens and gel medium.
DCWV papers used from
The Homeroom Stack, The Basics Stack,Dear Jane Stack,
Violet Leaf Stack, Craft & White Tag Stack

Whats going on?

Happy Monday bloggers!
How is summer going so far?
Well around the Barakat house baby girl is losing teeth..
She wanted to know if she still looks OK without them-
I told her of course she looks adorable!
The boys are getting bigger everyday and my night owl got braces!
We have been to parks, nature centers, pool to name a few…
We have had some uninvited guests…We are blessed to live in front of a nature
preserve so frogs/toads, bunnies, huge butterflies are all over the place.
This guy was waiting on the welcome mat when we got home one day!

I have been feeling better this week so back to creating…
A little sneak of things to come…

I also have this sweet layout featured on the “My Sweet Earth” Blog today!
(Yes the background is DCWV Sunday Afternoon)
This morning we are headed to the pool with friends.
How about you? Whats going on?
