Emotions Journal Layout

EmotionsArtJournalJennDuBellwww.ritabarakat.com

Hello, Everyone! Jenn here! Today I want to share my Emotions art journal layout with you.

Have you ever wanted to draw faces in your journal or other mixed media? If you have but you think your drawing skills won’t allow it you need to try these stencils! Rita Barakat designed them for this exact purpose.

These stencils are sold in a set In Rita’s Etsy Store here.

For this layout, I used the Sweet Sisters Flower stencil.

I also used The following stamps by Rita Barakat

Fairy Garden Background Stamp
Art Foamies Heart Wing

To create journal layouts like this one, start by creating a background. Use a combination of inks, sprays, and acrylics with stamps and stencils. Random ink sprays and splatters, combined with stamps brought this background to life. Once you have a background use the face stencils wherever you want them on your page. Add color to eyes and lips using pens or colored pencils as I did. You can also incorporate embossing powders as I did with mine. I used the Art Foamies Heart Wing stamp and white chalk ink. Stamp on the page and sprinkle with an iridescent pink embossing powder. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat tool.

Here are some more views of my process. Thank you so much for viewing my post! I hope that you are inspired to grab some of these stamps and stencils and get inky and creative with your journal!

In this photo, you can see where I started with thinner black lines and then started writing the script around the hair lines.

Adding white dots with a gel pen to the hair strands added more interest. Also, add some stamping with the Fairy Garden Background Stamp. This does not have to be perfect! Art is whatever your imagination creates! Add touches of color using bright gel pens or colored pencils. I used a distress marker in a fleshy pink tone and traced around all of the face lines to add dimension.

Thanks Again For viewing My post Today! Until next time, Jenn

Summer is officially here! Sand textured project!

June 2015 044-001_800x600
Hey hey there bloggers! Summer is officially here and I have a fun and easy project for ya today!
I took a Deflecto 3 sided acrylic frame and decorated it for some of my favorite summer pictures!
June 2015 002-001_800x600
For the sand I used this texture sand from Deco Art – nice white sand for those sandy beach memories! *tip – this is not a quick project, it needs to lay flat while drying and depending on where you are (there is a lot of humidity here lately so it took longer to dry) it could take a while to dry. I would do one side, add a shell or two, let it dry then do the next side…

June 2015 004_800x600
I used a Fiskars punch for clouds.

June 2015 005_800x600
I cut burlap for trees and coconuts and palm leaves out of double sided green card stock. (DCWV paper)

June 2015 006_800x600
You can use a small paint brush to curl up the leaves so they don’t lay so flat.

June 2015 007_800x600
Cut little fringes, every once in a while cut the other way…

June 2015 040-001_800x600
Glue all your pieces together (I used Gel Medium – Faber-Castell) and onto your frame and add pictures!

Fun and easy! What do you think? Any summer projects up your sleeve?

Art Journaling with Penny Black

June 2014 031100

Hey sweet bloggers! I bet you have been wondering where I’ve been! With school letting out it has been a crazy time- but not crazy that I did not have time to create! Here is my latest girl and she needs a name, any thoughts? today I am sharing Art Journaling with Penny Black.

I had originally made this for the Penny Black  and Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft blog hop but I forgot to use the Paper Crafter Crayons so I had to start over, but I loved this project so of course I had to share it!

After some experimentation I found it better to stamp first then use the stencil later. I am using Stampers Big Brush pens and Gelatos.

A dry sponge works best with stencils and Gelatos, added right on top of the stamped images.

Then I drew and painted my girl on another paper.

A two page out!

Hey sweet bloggers what is going on?
It’s been a while since I shares a layout so I figured why not a 2 pager!
Here’s a layout of my little ones (they grow up so fast!) – I had a lot of fun playing
with textures and paper (DCWV of course).

I added lots of Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft
gesso on top of pattern paper and drywall tape seems to be a staple
in my work these days. I don’t know why I just like those small circles!

Lots of layers, twine and charms.
The title is a chipboard piece I altered with Gellatos, PITT Artist Pens and gel medium.
DCWV papers used from
The Homeroom Stack, The Basics Stack,Dear Jane Stack,
Violet Leaf Stack, Craft & White Tag Stack

Baby girl mixed media love canvas

Hey there bloggers! Today is my first post over at  Frog Dog Studio!
It’s a new mixed media kit club and this is just one of the projects I made with the kit!
Today I have a tutorial on this project as well as lots of inside tips that you can use.
I hope you will check it out!
Also I wanted to let you know if you are interested
they are doing a design team call! So go check it out!

Whats the haps?(happenings)
Today Baby Tate goes back for another surgery so remember to pray for him today.
It breaks my heart that this sweet baby has to go through so much at only two months old.
Not to mention his parents heartbreak and devastation at this situation.
Please continue to pray for his health.
On the flip side I lost an entire to week to a migraine. It’s a good thing
I don’t wait until the last minute to get my projects done! The worst is over
but the headache lingers- so frustrating! In my migraine fuzziness
I dropped an electric guitar on my foot and it is too swollen to even put in a shoe!
What a mess! Ya’ll better pray for me to have a better week! LOL!
