We Rise by Lifting Others Up with Art Foamies

Good Morning Creatives, Keri Sallee here!

Today I am sharing a quick project using Rita’s Art Foamies “Hot Air Balloon” stamp in my art journal.

Create and Easy Background

By dabbing a regular cotton ball on my Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads and applying it is a swirling motion, I was able to create a watercolor style background. This is a great technique for creating background quick and with a lot of color. I used: Peacock Feathers, Blue Print, Scattered Straw, and Pickled Raspberry. I love how the colors overlap in places and add new and interesting colors.

Art Foamies!

I wanted to give my Art Foamie balloon some depth, so rather than using just one color of acrylic paint I painted it with three colors of acrylic paint (pink, aqua and a little gold.) I then stamped my hot air balloon towards the top of my page.

To create my basket, I used the accompanying basket stamp and kept it simple by applying brown paint to it with a brush and stamping it below my balloon.

After looking at my finished stamped images, I decided them needed a little more definition. By outlining parts of my balloon and adding a whicker pattern to my basket, I was able to POP it off the page more and separate the balloon from the background.

Here is a close up of my balloon. You can see the varying colors and the definition added with the pencil.

Finishing Touches

My clouds were made using my fingers and a little white gesso and Faber-Castell Glass Bead Glitter Gel. {Everything is better with GLITTER, right?!}

I am still new at using my calligraphy pen, but even if my title isn’t perfect, I still love the sentiment: We RISE by lifting OTHERS up.

Let’s all be on team US…after all…we’re all in this together.

Until next time,

XOXO,

Keri

Emotions Journal Layout

EmotionsArtJournalJennDuBellwww.ritabarakat.com

Hello, Everyone! Jenn here! Today I want to share my Emotions art journal layout with you.

Have you ever wanted to draw faces in your journal or other mixed media? If you have but you think your drawing skills won’t allow it you need to try these stencils! Rita Barakat designed them for this exact purpose.

These stencils are sold in a set In Rita’s Etsy Store here.

For this layout, I used the Sweet Sisters Flower stencil.

I also used The following stamps by Rita Barakat

Fairy Garden Background Stamp
Art Foamies Heart Wing

To create journal layouts like this one, start by creating a background. Use a combination of inks, sprays, and acrylics with stamps and stencils. Random ink sprays and splatters, combined with stamps brought this background to life. Once you have a background use the face stencils wherever you want them on your page. Add color to eyes and lips using pens or colored pencils as I did. You can also incorporate embossing powders as I did with mine. I used the Art Foamies Heart Wing stamp and white chalk ink. Stamp on the page and sprinkle with an iridescent pink embossing powder. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat tool.

Here are some more views of my process. Thank you so much for viewing my post! I hope that you are inspired to grab some of these stamps and stencils and get inky and creative with your journal!

In this photo, you can see where I started with thinner black lines and then started writing the script around the hair lines.

Adding white dots with a gel pen to the hair strands added more interest. Also, add some stamping with the Fairy Garden Background Stamp. This does not have to be perfect! Art is whatever your imagination creates! Add touches of color using bright gel pens or colored pencils. I used a distress marker in a fleshy pink tone and traced around all of the face lines to add dimension.

Thanks Again For viewing My post Today! Until next time, Jenn

Day 14 of thankfulness and a Christmas Canvas

Day 14
Hello bloggers. On the quest for giving thanks this month
I will be honest and tell you I did not find myself very thankful today.
I knew this was going to be a busy week and my head
and stomach were not cooperating with all I have to do to.

Then I saw my post was up on the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft blog
and remembered this quote I used on my project.

When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that
the simplest things-not the great occasions-
give off the greatest glow of happiness. – Bob Hope

Isn’t that true about life in general?
Today I was blessed by going out to breakfast with a friend.
I have another friend coming tommorrow and spending a few days
and we will be going to an all day crop on Friday!
Although the week has been crazy busy (and will continue to be until Friday)
we still have things to be thankful for.
Simple things
like – fall decorations, the smell of muffins or bread
baking in the kitchen, a package in the mail.
Aspirin (I’m just sayin’!)
A hot cup of chai and a little quiet time in the morning.
What simple things are you thankful for?

(For a tutorial on this project go to the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft blog.)

Dreams…

Hey there bloggers! Here are some fun techniques on a card!
Using these fun chipboard Mannequins!

Chipboard Mannequins from Craftwork Cards sold by The Rubber Cafe

First I punched out the dress shapes and used the remnant as a stencil!
I used Gelatos and a dry sponge (lil Inkez), I did the same with one of the
chipboard mannequins. Then I stamped with the dress form on the card and
the flourish on the chipboard. I added some smudges on the edges of the card
with the dry sponge.
Of course I couldn’t make it happen without adding a little glitter!
and accessories…
Doodling and there you have it!

Perfectly Loved

Hey there bloggers!
I have been working on a little art lately!
(Inspired by Christy Tomlinson!)
Personally I don’t know know why we are so hard on ourselves.
You know I re-did this girl three times before I was OK with the way she looked?
It’s still not perfect but I needed to stop being so hard on myself and let it go.
The fact that I am even sharing this on my blog
is definitely a step in the right direction RIGHT?
Hmm…I guess the saying is perfect for this piece isn’t it?
It says

“She knew she didn’t have to be perfect,

because she knew she was perfectly loved.”

 (Holly Gerth)
I did a lot of coloring and shading with my Gelatos
and some texture paste. I tore pattern papers and used stencils
as well. Her dress, chipboard stickers &
the background strips of paper are
pattern papers from Pink Paislee.
For the word “Love” I used Clearly Expressions Word Titles from Clear Scraps.
I added color with alcohol inks and a very fine glitter.
I outlined the edges with a permanent marker.
The scripture on the bottom right hand corner is
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
1 John 4:8
I also made this little charm…
Don’t forget to check out the Clear Scraps blog and the Pink Paislee blog

An ARTsy Card

Hey there bloggers! First thank you for all the encouragement on my
“Operation Clean Up” post!
I have to say about five hours into it I was thinking
“what am I nuts??? I will never get this done!”
But I carried on and although it looks disasterous
right now I know I made progress…
It just doesn’t look like it! LOL!
***
Well if you have been on my blog for a while you
know I have a hard time with cards so
I had to think out of the box in order to create one! This is the result!
I call it an ARTsy card!
I was so excited to get the Vintage Treasures stamp set from The Rubber Cafe
and use all these wonderful Images!
Right away I went for my Faber-Castell stash and my journal.
I stamped the images all over the page with my  Stampers Big Brush
 Added color with Gelatos
Some of the places I blended with Lil’ Inkerz (a sponge with a handle),
I didn’t use water- just blended the color with the dry sponge.
On the upper right hand corner I used water and a paint brush-
you can see the color is more vibrant that way. Two different looks with Gelatos.
Cut my page down to a card size…
Edged with Gelato (blended-dry).
To really see the difference between dry and wet Gelato the left (yellow)
is wet and the bottom & right (yellow-green & blue)
of the card was blended with a dry sponge.
I added this square to a blank card and decorated it.
The butterfly was cut from the same page and mounted only in the center
If I can do it so can you!
Happy scrapping!
