Joyful Fairy Diva Art Journal Layout

Hi there Barakat Creatives! Ramona back, and I am excited to share another set of art journal pages with you. If you have seen my previous posts you know I am a passionate art journaler. I find that playing in an art book without too many expectations for myself has allowed me to grow creatively. I have been able to experiment with acrylic, watercolors, stencils, lettering, collage work and expressive journaling in ways I would not have done without my art journals. I am thrilled to share another layout with you, using the Rita Barakat Diva Stencil and Art-Foamies Fairy Wings.

Let’s Get Started!

First, using a sharp pencil trace the lines of the stencil on your page. Remember the lines don’t completely connect, so you will be filling in the spaces when you are done with the stencil.

Using a permanent ink pen ( I use a fine tip Sharpie) finish up the lining of your  Diva stencil. You can also erase lines and alter the image if you would like. I generally start light with my lines, to get a feel for how the image looks on my page. After completing the line connections I go back and fill in the thick areas, like the lashes around the eyes, using the stencil for a reference. You can see how easy it is to get a beautiful face with the Diva stencil Rita has created. I love her joy!

I also stamped the Fairy Wings Art-Foamie for her wings. I used a corner of my under paper (yes, I save everything and use what I can!) because I like the splotchy way it looked. Once the acrylic paint dried, I outlined the wings with a ballpoint pen for definition and cut them out. Using Matte Medium I positioned the wings and smoothed them onto the page.

Splash of Color!

Now, you get to add the color to pages. Using watercolors I started by painting the face. Watercolor paint is so versatile, I am beginning to love them in my journals. I prefer a loose and free fill in my journals, so this was a great way to get that airy color but still look vibrant. Here is where it really matters what type of pen you use to finish up your image, as non-permanent inks will smudge with the addition of water.

Try to use the colors you choose in more than one place on your layout. Making sure there bits of color that repeat on both sides of the layout will add to the cohesive feel of your pages.

The Finishing Touch

Once you have your focal image filled in and your background covered, you are ready to add some finishing touches to your pages. This where you will decide what you want the sentiment to be. I often use quotes or loose journaling depending on my mood as I create. I just finished reading the book “Wonder” by R.J. Pallacio, and I have to ponder the message of kindness that struck a chord as I enjoyed that novel. I wanted this joyful image and bright color to remind me about kindness, and also remind me of my time spent reading and contemplating the book.

I enjoy how layouts may appear fairly general to the average onlooker, but when created with a purpose you will have a whole intention and memory associated with your pages. I used the lettering to fill the entire page, edging the pages with a few swatches of washi tape.

Take the time to play with art. Record things that you are thinking about, things that move you, and things that are part of your life.  Not only will you create a keepsake for yourself and your family, but you will grow as an artist as you use new products and try new techniques.

Happy crafting! <3

XOXO

Wonderful Things Keepsake

Hi there,

Karen here, sharing a little Keepsake that I created with the Fairy Magic stamp set and oxide inks. I absolutely love this stamp set. It’s perfect for all types of projects of all sizes. This keepsake measures 5 1/2 x 5 1/2. It’s a great gift giving idea and always perfect for art décor in your crafty space too. The base of this project is a shadow box that I found clearanced at a local craft store.

I began this keepsake with inking some watercolor paper with various oxide inks and water. I used oxide colors: broken china, fossilized amber and spiced marmalade. I trimmed my watercolor paper down to a layering size.

Using black ink, I stamped fairies and sentiments onto the inked watercolor paper and then heat set the ink. I stamped multiple fairies and sentiments to be used in other projects. A fairy and sentiment were then cut out with scissors.

Next, I distressed the edges of the watercolor paper, fairy and sentiment with coordinating oxide ink.

Next, I applied oxide inks to resin embellishments using a paint brush.

Then, I adhered some jeweled adhesive paper to the shadow box as the base layer of the keepsake.

Next, I adhered the inked layer and resin embellishments to the keepsake.

I then added the “Wonderful Things” sentiment and fairy to the keepsake using 3D tape.

Lastly, I adhered coordinating flowers, clear beaded spray stems and a crystal charm.

This was a super easy and fun project that came together very quickly. The use of the fairy and sentiment added just the right touch to make this gift special. The stamp set can be found using the link below:

Emotions Journal Layout

EmotionsArtJournalJennDuBellwww.ritabarakat.com

Hello, Everyone! Jenn here! Today I want to share my Emotions art journal layout with you.

Have you ever wanted to draw faces in your journal or other mixed media? If you have but you think your drawing skills won’t allow it you need to try these stencils! Rita Barakat designed them for this exact purpose.

These stencils are sold in a set In Rita’s Etsy Store here.

For this layout, I used the Sweet Sisters Flower stencil.

I also used The following stamps by Rita Barakat

Fairy Garden Background Stamp
Art Foamies Heart Wing

To create journal layouts like this one, start by creating a background. Use a combination of inks, sprays, and acrylics with stamps and stencils. Random ink sprays and splatters, combined with stamps brought this background to life. Once you have a background use the face stencils wherever you want them on your page. Add color to eyes and lips using pens or colored pencils as I did. You can also incorporate embossing powders as I did with mine. I used the Art Foamies Heart Wing stamp and white chalk ink. Stamp on the page and sprinkle with an iridescent pink embossing powder. Heat set the embossing powder with a heat tool.

Here are some more views of my process. Thank you so much for viewing my post! I hope that you are inspired to grab some of these stamps and stencils and get inky and creative with your journal!

In this photo, you can see where I started with thinner black lines and then started writing the script around the hair lines.

Adding white dots with a gel pen to the hair strands added more interest. Also, add some stamping with the Fairy Garden Background Stamp. This does not have to be perfect! Art is whatever your imagination creates! Add touches of color using bright gel pens or colored pencils. I used a distress marker in a fleshy pink tone and traced around all of the face lines to add dimension.

Thanks Again For viewing My post Today! Until next time, Jenn
