Oh yeah, I did it. I just can’y help myself, I see all white surfaces as a blank canvas. So yeah I painted my Ikea Alex drawer units. Did you know you could paint slick storage with Plaid Home Decor paint? I did a guest designer spot for Plaid and they sent me this beautiful paint…
The pictures do not do it justice – this color Folk Art Home Decor Chalk paint has a matte finish, is rich in color and great coverage! Even on a slick surface! So you know I had to try it and this is Texas, go big or go home! Ha!
Sometimes when I get ideas I just go for it, so no I did not prime my surface- I figured the worst that could happen is it would rub off…I am happy to report it didn’t! I used a sponge dauber and very little paint over the stencil, too much paint might seep under the stencil.
I did not want brush strokes in the paint, especially because it was a slick surface so I used the dauber for the whole surface. It left a molted effect that was pretty cool So I decided to do both sets of drawers.
Then decided to make it solid with another coat. (see first pic) I used a sponge paint brush for the solid parts, a tiny paint brush for some of the tiny stenciled parts. I wish you could see it in person – there is something about the chalk matte finish of this paint that is so gorgeous! Oh and what’s in the drawers? Check it out…
Texture tubs are right here in this dish tub- the large tubs are the perfect size for the IKEA expedit but that is another post for another day! I hope you enjoyed my painting slick surfaces with Plaid Home Decor paint. Got any storage ideas or makeovers? Leave me a link!
